Most Islandia traffic tickets coming into the office are speeding tickets. There are also a good number of HOV tickets that are given out as well. This is because most of the tickets that are handed out in Islandia are given on the small area of the long Island Expressway that goes through Islandia. The problem is a conviction for speeding carries a number of consequences. All speeding convictions carry points. The number of points depends on how fast over the limit it is alleged you were driving. Many of the Islandia speeding tickets are written for speed of between 21 mph to 30 mph over the limit. Those speeds carry 6 points. Higher speeds of 31 mph to 40 mph over the limit carry 8 points, and speeds of 41 mph or more over the limit carry 11 points. An accumulation of 11 points on your license over an 18 month period will lead to an automatic suspension. Also a conviction to 3 speeds with violation dates within 18 month of each other will lead to a 6 month suspension of your license. This is aside from the fines, surcharges, NYS driver assessment fees and increased insurance rates that can result from a conviction for speeding.
